Advent Special Collection

We are all blessed to be part of a school where we can learn and talk about the season of Advent as a special time to focus on God’s greatest gift to us, His Son, JESUS!  Pope Francis has called ALL of us to reach out to the poor.  Teaching children to participate in acts of social justices is what we are called to do as a Catholic school.  This year, as part of our Advent Project, we will be partnering with the Glenmary Sisters to collect items that will be given to those in need.
We ask each child to bring in items from the grade level lists below.  We will collect these items from December 1st- December 17th.
Each class will collect and keep the items in the classrooms as a visual sign of our gifts for Baby Jesus- for when we give to others, we are giving to Jesus and fulfilling his commandments!  The Glenmary Sisters will come to the school to collect the items.  Each class will help carry the donations to the Sisters, as teachers explain the importance of our call to love and care for others.
Below are suggestions of items needed by grade level:
Kindergarten
Baby items- diapers, clothes, socks, toys, games
1st Grade
Winter wear- hats, gloves, scarves, coats, socks
2nd Grade
Household items- paper towels, detergent, tissues, cleaning supplies
3rd Grade
Hygiene items- shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, combs, brushes, toothbrushes

Secret Gift Exchange

This year students will not do an individual gift exchange, instead each class will draw the name of another class in the school and become their “Secret Advent Angel”.  Without revealing our identity, each class will perform secret acts of kindness, prepare small gifts, or pray for the needs of their Advent Angel.
In lieu of purchasing a $5.00 gift for a gift exchange in the classroom we are asking that the children make a $5.00 donation for an Advent Angel gift.  With this money we will be purchasing gifts/toys for our “Advent Angel Class.”  The gifts purchased will be given to the class at their Christmas party.
Students will get to share in the excitement of opening gifts for the classroom, but more importantly will experience the joy that we receive by giving to others.
We will collect money for our Secret Advent Angel from December 1st   through December 12th.

You may send in cash or a check. Checks should be written to the OCS K-3 Campus and placed in an envelope with your child(ren)’s name on the front and grade level.  You can write one check for multiple children.
We look forward to this Advent season and the joy that comes from watching the children participate in small acts of kindness for others.
